Patent Prosecution Specialist / Paralegal

Haynes Beffel & Wolfeld LLP, an intellectual property law firm specializing in patent prosecution, is seeking to hire an experienced Patent Prosecution Paralegal /Legal Assistant in Half MoonBay, California.

Requirements:

3+ years working experience as either a patent prosecution specialist / paralegal (preferably in a law firm). In-depth knowledge of patent regulations and rules and the patent prosecution process both nationally and internationally. Extensive experience and competency in patent prosecution procedures, including docketing, document preparation and electronic filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Four year degree or accredited paralegal certificate is preferred.

Responsibilities:

Assist in preparation and filing of prosecution documents, including patent application submissions, restriction requirement responses, amendments, information disclosure statements, allowance review and issue fee payments, formalities and appeal submissions. Proactive patent portfolio management by timely processing and prioritizing client instructions; conducting status updates via PAIR or other patent office websites; and accurately tracking and clearing deadlines. Generate and maintain requested portfolio analytics, such as client status reports and patent family trees.

Experience and Skills:

3+ years working experience as either a patent prosecution specialist /paralegal. Exceptional competency in patent prosecution rules, procedures, and docketing; patent document preparation; and filing in the U.S. and foreign jurisdictions. Must possess strong attention to detail, excellent organization, and solid analytical skills. Must be self-motivated, be able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, USPTO.gov (PAIR, EFS-Web and EPAS), Adobe Acrobat and the Internet. Knowledge of First to File, IPDAS or CPI is a plus.
