James F. Hann
is engaged exclusively in intellectual property counseling, primarily involving preparation and prosecution of patent applications, and analysis of the scope and validity of patents in a variety of settings, including licensing, litigation and strategic planning. The technical focus of his practice ranges from sawmill equipment to medical devices, such as catheters, drug delivery devices, stents, tumor removal devices, radiation therapy devices, etc. He is also actively involved in obtaining patent protection in other areas of technology such as photovoltaic systems, “smart” thermostats, phase change memory devices and watercraft sails. He is experienced in a wide range of technologies, ranging from integrated circuit manufacturing technology to methods for producing raisins. Mr. Hann is also active in protecting ornamental designs through the use of design patents. BSME with Distinction, MS in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (1971 and 1973), Tau Beta Pi and Pi Tau Sigma; JD from Hastings College of the Law (1977). Admitted to practice law in California (1977). Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (1979).
